Ret. Chief Sr. M/Sgt. Professor Powell, Jr., age 84, of Fairview Heights, IL, formerly of Melbourne, FL, born on May 1, 1934 in Selma, AL died on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.
A 30 year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving all over the world, Professor retired as a Chief Senior Master Sergeant. He also worked in the Treasury Department. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Melbourne, FL. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing pinochle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ophelia B., nee Bogan, Powell; his daughter, Sonya Powell; and his parents, Professor and Corrine, nee Baughan, Powell, Sr.
Surviving are his five children, Ronald (Wendy) Powell of Fairview Heights, IL, Kimberly Powell of Melbourne, FL, Angela Powell of Atlanta, GA, Eric Powell of Melbourne, FL, and Mistania Powell of Port St. Lucie, FL; his six grandchildren, Jacob, Quincy, Logan, Jason, Joshua, and Zachary Powell; his three siblings, Sarah Ann Mack, Clarence Powell, and Estella Newton, all of Selma, AL; and his half-brother, Willie Norwood of Birmingham, AL.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.
Burial of cremated remains will occur at a later date in Florida.
