Patricia Baucum Obituary

Patricia Rose Baucum passed away on August 6, 2018 at the Bria of Belleville Healthcare Nursing Home in Belleville IL. Ms. Baucum was born in Danville IL on March 21, 1953. Raised in Danville, she was member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was a graduate of St. Paul Parochial School and a 1971 graduate of Schlarman High School. After graduating from Schlarman, she left Danville and went on to obtain a BS in Business degree in 1976 and a BS in Theatrical Arts from Eastern Illinois University in 1979. Ms. Baucum then went on to get a master's degree in theatrical arts from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1981. While in school at Ann Arbor she was diagnosed with MS. In 1982, Ms. Baucum moved to Chicago. In 1986 she started work for Columbia College of Chicago, a fine arts school. Ms. Baucum first worked in the college's business office and later as a counselor and placement officer for the college's undergrad program. In 2000 Ms. Baucum medically retired from Columbia College and moved to Belleville IL. Ms. Baucum stayed with her immediate family till her medical condition required nursing home care in 2013. Ms. Baucum died from complications that occurs with the long-term effects associated with multiple sclerosis.

Patricia was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Mr. John H. and Mrs. Alma Day Haynes Sr., by her maternal grandparents Mr. Charlie Mach and Lula Phillips Griggs, her father, Earle W. Baucum Sr.; four paternal uncles Mr. John Henry Haynes Jr., Mr. Eddie Haynes, Mr. Harvey Haynes Sr. and Mr. Philip Haynes; four paternal aunts Mrs. Vera Haynes Williams, Ms. Deola Haynes, Mrs. Delois Haynes Townsend and Bonnie Bell Haynes Vickers; a maternal uncle Mr. Douglas Griggs I., and a maternal aunt Mrs. Charlsie Griggs Taylor.

Patricia is survived by her mother Rosie Lee Baucum of Belleville IL, her brother Earle W. Baucum Jr. of Belleville IL, two maternal aunts Mrs. Vernice Johnson of Madison IL and Mrs. Hazel Griggs of Carrollton, TX, and the families of many first, second and third cousins.

Appropriate memorial cut funeral flower arrangements are appreciated but the family is requesting that no potted plants be submitted. And as an alternative, in lieu of flowers, those interested could send a donation to their local National Multiple Sclerosis Society the Gateway Area Chapter or a needy charity of their choice in honor of Patricia's name.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Illinois. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh IL with Monsignor James Margason and Deacon George Mills Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Gardens of Memory in Millstadt IL.
