Lawrence J. Merchut

Lawrence J. “Larry” Merchut, age 72, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on September 14, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.   

Larry attended St. Phillips Grade School, Assumption High School and St. Louis University.  He was a United States Marine Vietnam Veteran and worked for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Genevieve, nee Wozniak, Merchut. 

Larry is survived by his wife, Marcia Kassing Merchut, nee Mackowiak; his step sons, Alfred “Butch” Kassing of New Douglas, IL, Robert A. Kassing of Fairview Heights, IL, and Kenneth J. (Sharon) Kassing of Fairview Heights, IL; his step grandchildren, Samantha Kassing of Jacksonville, FL and Andrew Kassing of Belleville, IL; and his furry friends, Amos and Libby. 

Memorials may be made to the Fairview Heights Food Pantry. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL.

 A funeral procession will leave on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. from Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL, with Fr. Jim Nall and Fr. Andrew Knopik officiating.  Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
