LaVerne J. Kistler

LaVerne J. Kistler, nee Welhoelter, age 87, of Fairview Heights, IL born on March 8, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, died on September 21, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

LaVerne worked at Beyersdorfers Bakery and at Lakeland Laundry in Swansea, IL. She was a member of French Village Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, and the Evening Circle at St. John’s UCC. She loved being a mother and raising her children. LaVerne loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and watching hummingbirds.  

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Charles A. “Chuck” Kistler; her grandson, Ben Kistler; her parents, William and Mary “Margie”, nee Bieger, Welhoelter; her siblings, Arthur Welhoelter, Robert Welhoelter and Vernell (George) Rasmussen; her son-in-law, Steve Hooten; and her brother-in-law, Bill Hagarty.

LaVerne is survived by her children, Chuck (Sharon) Kistler of O’Fallon, IL, Terry (Rick) Beckett of Troy, IL, Kurt Kistler of Fairview Heights, IL, Douglas (Linda) Kistler of Beauregard, AL and Mary Beth Hooten of Camden, TN.; her grandchildren, Beth (Paul) Drury, Rebecca (Blake) Witte, Shawn Beckett, Erica (Jason) Lashbrook, Erin (Bob) Szegedy, Monica (Adrian) Ryan, Kurt Kistler, Jr., Amanda Kistler, Matthew (Jennifer) Kistler, Mindy Kistler, Brandi (Stephen) Gooden, Sheree (Robert) Cox, Mike (Amanda) Hooten, and Amy Woods; her great grandchildren, Haley, Jaxon, Sawyer, Nikki, Austin, Emily, Isabella, Taylor, Peyton, Garrett, Katie, Nora, Drake, Mary Whitten, Gage, Rachel, Allison, Gabriella, Kristine, Abigail, Alex and Andrew; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Hagarty; and her daughter-in- law, Barbara Kistler.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Doris Mueller.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the French Village Fire Department, 1406 2nd St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fairview Heights, with Rev. Rosemary Captain officiating. Interment will be in Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
