John L. Wilson, age 70, of Caseyville, IL, formerly of Washington Park, IL, born on March 15, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Christian Hospital Northeast, St. Louis, MO.
John was a United States Army Veteran and retired from Pennsylvania Railroad/Rose Lake Yards as a railroad car repairman. He was a former President of Carmans Local 2037, Transport Workers Union of America. John was also the former member and President of Hollywood Heights Fire Protection District, Democratic Precinct Committeeman of Precinct #1; Sergeant at Arms for the St. Clair County Democratic Party; former Police Commissioner, Chairman of Zoning and Planning Commission, Vice President of the Police Pension Board, all for the Village of Caseyville, IL, member of St. Clair Masonic Lodge #24, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Southern IL, Ainad Temple, Member of O’Fallon Sportsmen’s Club, American Legion Post 53 and a current Caseyville Township Trustee.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin John Wilson; his beloved dog, Odie Boy; his parents, John L. and Orianna Wilson, nee Colona; his sisters, Janice Penn and Kathleen Waligorski; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Waligorski and Walter Miller.
John is survived by his daughter, Kristin L. (G.W.) Scott, Jr., of Caseyville, IL; his grandchildren, Brianna, Brooke, Braelynn and Kevin Scott; his former wife, Sheila Berry (Dalton) of Caseyville, IL; his sister, Dolores “Dee Dee” Miller; his nieces and nephews, Andy Penn, Tracy Jenkins, Dan Penn, Skip Miller, and Kristopher Waligorski; his aunt, Shirley Feegle of St. Louis, MO; his cousins, Pete Hoffman, Jim Lemansky, Tom Wierciak, Erich Feegle, Sheryl Rhodes, Kurt Feegle, Ron Franklin and Jim Coppotelli. John is also survived by great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Belleville Area Humane Society.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, IL with Pastor Greg Pratt officiating.
Graveside services, with full military honors, for his cremated remains will follow at Caseyville Cemetery, Caseyville, IL at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
