John M. Salanik, age 64, of Swansea, IL, born on April 1, 1954 in East St. Louis, IL, died peacefully at his home on Friday, July 27, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Geneva, nee Rowe, Salanik; his brother, David Salanik, and family member, Jeannette Johnson.
John worked as a painting contractor, owning and operating Salanik Painting from 1992 to 2011. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Belleville, IL, and was an active participant in the music ministry. He loved his family, playing music, and fishing. He had several favorite artists, but a paraphrased quote from George Harrison's family sustained him through his most recent health struggles. When he was ill, George said he wanted three things when he passed; to be conscious of God, fearless of death, and surrounded by his family. John, like George, had all three.
John is survived by his wife, Cris Salanik, nee McLemore; his children, Rachel (Anthony) Palmisano of Fenton, MO, Matthew (Elizabeth) Salanik of St. Louis, MO, and Sarah (Daniel) Cook of Kalamazoo, MI; his grandchildren, Jack and Mark Palmisano and Brennan Cook; his brother, Mark (Olivia) Salanik of Granite City, IL; and his mother-in-law, Billie McLemore.
