John R. Hampsey, Sr.

John R. Hampsey, Sr., age 90, of Belleville, IL, born on March 28, 1929 in Johnston City, IL died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

John was the owner/operator of H & H Sewer Tank and Pipe Cleaning in Belleville, IL since 1945.  He attended Gospel Assembly in St. Louis, MO, was co-pastor of Christian Worship Assembly in Caseyville, IL, and a member of Gospel Tabernacle in Godfrey, IL. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Thelma, nee Davis, Hampsey; his son-in-law, Paul Solana; his daughter-in-law, Vickie Hampsey; his grandson, Jacob Hampsey; his three sisters, Patricia Bailey, Anita Adkins, and Donna Worthy; his mother-in-law, Mary E. Stamps; and his father-in-law, Harry A. Stamps.

Surviving is his wife, Marybelle, nee Stamps, Hampsey; his five children, Estia D. Solana of High Ridge, MO, Deborah P. (Dennis) Collins of Swansea, IL, John R. (Joyce) Hampsey, Jr. of Fairmont City, IL, Laura M. (Crede) Edens of Belleville, IL, and Katrina J. (Herbert) McCarty of Belleville, IL; his eight grandchildren, Chadwick W. (Laurie) Collins, Heather J. (Timothy) Mitchell, Darwin John (Elisha) Collins, Merideth A. (Travis) Wilson, John R. (Andrea) Hampsey III, Thomas M. McCarty, Laurabelle McCarty, and Matthew H. Edens; his 17 great-grandchildren; his five great-great grandchildren; his sister, Miriam Ruth Long of Las Vegas, NV; his brother, James L. (Belva) Hampsey of Godfrey, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.

Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Gospel Tabernacle, Godfrey, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Gospel Tabernacle, Godfrey, IL with Brother Alfred Daves officiating.  Interment will follow at Green Mount Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
