Diane Jean Weissert (Madej) passed away at her home on April 9, 2018.
Diane was born in East St. Louis on January 8, 1954, the only child of John and Josephine Madej. Her parents preceded her in death. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and graduated from St. Teresa Academy. Following graduation she began working at the National Stock Yard Bank.
She met her future husband, Kevin Weissert, in 1980 when she moved to Fairview Heights and they became neighbors. They married at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church on July 21, 1984. They would later welcome two daughters, Melissa and Jessica. Diane became a stay-at-home mother and was a loving and devoted mom, always encouraging her daughters to go for their dreams and supporting them in every endeavor.
At an early age, Diane developed a love of reading and crafting, including cross-stitch and crochet. She loved all animals, but especially her cats, and enjoyed watching the seasons change on the lake at her home. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and loved winning one of the beautiful quilts. She was proud of and celebrated her Polish heritage.
After having worked at Boatman's Bank and St. Clair Square before children, Diane went back to work when her daughters were grown. She worked at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate. She was a people person who thrived on meeting new people.
Diane will be remembered for her caring heart, gracious nature, kindness and humor. Those left to mourn her and celebrate her life include Kevin, her husband of 33 years, her daughters Jessica of Collinsville, IL and Melissa and her husband, Matthew Turner of Richmond, VA, and many cousins and friends. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Verla, sister-in-law, Cheryl, and her dear friend of nearly sixty years, Debbie Hoef, who was a sister to her.
