Alma “Tootie” Hinkle, nee Phillips, age 90, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on August 5, 1933 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Delmar Gardens, in Chesterfield, MO.
Alma worked as a secretary with Pet Inc. in St. Louis for many years. After retiring, she attended SIU-Edwardsville and received her bachelor’s degree. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. She also wrote a book titled “Raspberries in Winter,” about her life growing up. Alma will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Hinkle; parents, John and Venita (Welch) Phillips; sisters, Jackie Burroughs and Maryann Habian; brother, John Phillips; and great grandson, Oliver Hinkle.
Alma is survived by her children, Dave (Vicki) Hinkle of St. Louis, MO, Cindy (Mike) McLean of Mission Viejo, CA, and Dan (Jenny) Hinkle of Bonita Springs, FL; nine grandsons, David (Mara) Hinkle, Mark (Jennifer) Hinkle, Scott (Sara) Hinkle, Daniel (Kari) Hinkle, Patrick (Holly) McLean, Timothy (Cara) McLean, Clay (Jared Biggart) Hinkle, Brett Hinkle, Zach (Laura Pacheco) Hinkle; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Jeannie (Gary) Edson of Collinsville, IL, and Carol Sheldon of Fairview Heights, IL. Alma was also a loving aunt and dear friend to many.

Interment will follow funeral service in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
